PUBLIC WARNING OF SUSPECTS SCOUTING CONDOS FOR BREAK AND ENTERS

York Regional Police is issuing a warning to the public after two incidents of suspects scouting units prior to committing break and enters into condominiums and apartments.

Recently, two incidents were reported in Richmond Hill, involving unidentified suspects surreptitiously gaining entrance into condominium and apartment buildings during the early morning hours. The suspects applied a glue-like substance on unit doors throughout the building. The suspects also took steps to prevent communal exits from locking properly in order to gain future access to the buildings. The suspects returned at a later date to examine the condition of the glue to determine if the units were occupied before committing break and enters.

Owners and tenants should be aware of this crime technique and report any suspicious persons or activities to police and to their condo management or building superintendent.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the York Regional Police #2 District Criminal Investigations Bureau at 1-866-876-5423, ext. 7244, or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS, or leave an anonymous tip online at www.1800222tips.com.
