As springtime approaches, York Regional Police (YRP) is reminding the public to safeguard their homes against seasonal break and enters.
Despite recent arrests following result of several projects targeting residential break and enters, incidents continue to be reported across York Region.
Using a data-driven approach YRP continues to identify break and enter hot-spot areas across the region and is increasing police visibility and conducting proactive investigations.
Homeowners are encouraged to remain vigilant and call 9-1-1 to report suspicious activity in their neighbourhood.
You can take these six steps to protect your home from criminals:
- Install security cameras and put indoor and outdoor lights on timers
- Cut back trees, shrubs and anything blocking the view of entrances
- Close, lock and secure all doors and windows
- Store valuables somewhere unexpected
- Know your neighbours and have them watch your home if you’re away
- Register on the York Regional Police Security Camera Registry
