Members of the York Regional Police #5 District Criminal Investigations Bureau are seeking public assistance in identifying suspects after three firearms were stolen during a break and enter in the City of Markham.

On Monday, March 31, 2025, officers responded to a break and enter at a residence on Plum Tree Circle, in the area of 16^th Avenue and Warden Avenue. The homeowner returned to the residence around 11 p.m. to find his home had been broken into. They quickly discovered a safe containing three firearms had been pried open and the guns stolen. A quantity of Canadian currency was also taken.

The investigation is ongoing and police are asking anyone who may have noticed suspicious activity in the area between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. to come forward.

York Regional Police is reminding residents to take steps to secure their houses, especially when they expect to be away for a while. Consider these tips:

• Put lights on timers to give the impression someone is home
• Keep exterior areas around doors and windows well-lit and visible
• Ask a neighbour to park a vehicle in your driveway
• Remember to suspend newspaper delivery
• Have someone regularly clear your driveway of snow or mow your lawn
• Equip your home with a security system and/or video surveillance
• Do not publicly post your travel plans on social media or leave the fact that you are away on your voicemail

If you store firearms in a safe, you must consider securing the safe to a wall or floor or other suitable fixed point. We recommend securing the firearm even further by using a trigger lock or other locking device. Ensure your firearms are always stored unloaded.
