FIREARMS STOLEN IN RESIDENTIAL BREAK AND ENTER IN MARKHAM

Members of the York Regional Police #5 District Criminal Investigations Bureau are seeking public assistance in identifying suspects after three firearms were stolen during a break and enter in the City of Markham.

On Monday, March 31, 2025, officers responded to a break and enter at a residence on Plum Tree Circle, in the area of 16th Avenue and Warden Avenue. The homeowner returned to the residence around 11 p.m. to find his home had been broken into. They quickly discovered a safe containing three firearms had been pried open and the guns stolen. A quantity of Canadian currency was also taken.

The investigation is ongoing and police are asking anyone who may have noticed suspicious activity in the area between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. to come forward.

Suspect vehicle description:

  • Black 2018-2020 Hyundai Tucson

York Regional Police is reminding residents to take steps to secure their houses, especially when they expect to be away for a while. Consider these tips:

  • Put lights on timers to give the impression someone is home
  • Keep exterior areas around doors and windows well-lit and visible
  • Ask a neighbour to park a vehicle in your driveway
  • Remember to suspend newspaper delivery
  • Have someone regularly clear your driveway of snow or mow your lawn
  • Equip your home with a security system and/or video surveillance
  • Do not publicly post your travel plans on social media or leave the fact that you are away on your voicemail

If you store firearms in a safe, you must consider securing the safe to a wall or floor or other suitable fixed point. We recommend securing the firearm even further by using a trigger lock or other locking device. Ensure your firearms are always stored unloaded.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the #5 District Criminal Investigations Bureau at 1-866-876-5423, ext. 7541, or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS, or leave an anonymous tip online at www.1800222tips.com.
