Investigators with the York Regional Police Hold-Up Unit are appealing for witnesses following a failed armed carjacking attempt in the City of Vaughan.
On Saturday, March 15, 2025, at approximately 8:30 p.m., police responded to an attempted carjacking in a plaza parking lot, in the area of Yonge Street and Steeles Avenue. The victim reported walking to his vehicle when he was approached by a male suspect armed with a firearm. The male demanded keys to the vehicle and the victim complied.
As the male got into the driver’s seat, a struggle ensued. The male fled on foot and got into a dark-coloured sport utility vehicle (SUV), believed to be occupied by a second suspect. The SUV fled at a high rate of speed.
The victim was not injured.
The suspect is described as male, Black, 20 to 25-years-old, wearing black clothing, black shoes and a cloth mask over his face.
A firearm was recovered at the scene and determined to be a replica firearm.
Investigators are appealing for any witnesses to come forward. Officers would also like to speak with anyone who may have video surveillance or dashcam footage in the area at the time of the incident.
